Becoming a Member


Purpose of the Club

  • To encourage members and breeders to accept the Samoyed breed standard as approved by the AKC as the only standard of excellence by which Samoyeds will be judged.

  • To do all in its power to protect and advance the interest of the purebred Samoyed.

  • To promote cooperation and sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, obedience trials, herding trials, and sled races.

  • To hold and support exhibitions and matches under the rules and regulations of the AKC.

  • To educate the public, breeders, judges, and fanciers of purebred dogs regarding the Samoyed; the breed standard, breed history, responsible dog ownership, and responsible breeding.

Types of MembershipThere are two types of membership which are open to all individuals who are in good standing with the American Kennel Club, and who subscribe to the purposes of this Club.

  • Regular Membership – open to any individual who is at least 18 years of age and who has attended at least two regular monthly meetings of the Club within one year.

    • The two classifications for Regular members are Individual and Family membership (for members living in the same household).

  • Associate Membership – open to any individual who has attended at least two Club sponsored events within one year. Associate members do not hold office, and they do not vote.

    • There are three classifications of Associate membership: Individual or Family associate membership for individuals of at least 18 years of age, and Junior

 Procedure for Applying for Membership

  • Applications may be downloaded and brought to a meeting of the Club or sent to the Club Secretary.

  • All applications must be read to the membership at least twice before being voted on.

  • The Secretary shall read each application at the first meeting following its receipt, and will read it a second time at the next meeting following its receipt.

  • After the second reading, and at that same meeting, the application shall be brought to a vote. An affirmative vote by ¾ of the members in attendance shall be required to elect the applicant.

  • Applicants who have been rejected by the Club may not reapply within 6 months after such rejection.
